Amino acids are the building blocks of literally everything in the human body, including the skin and hair. The body can only produce healthy skin cells, collagen, elastin, strong nails and strong hair roots if it has sufficient amino acids. The skin also contains more amino acids than any other tissue in the body. This makes amino acids just as essential for healthy and firm skin as vitamins and minerals.

The body and skin are constantly renewing themselves; a continuous supply of amino acids is therefore important. Unfortunately, from the age of 35, the body absorbs fewer and fewer amino acids from food and the body's own production of amino acids also decreases. Amino acids fulfil a number of specific functions in the skin:

Together with aquaporins (the body's water transport system), amino acids ensure the transport of moisture through the skin. Optimal hydration helps to fill in wrinkles from the inside (plumping effect)
• Preventing skin ageing: restoring the normal structure of the dermis, stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and keratin, which ensures that the skin is strengthened.
• Protection against free radicals: some amino acids work as antioxidants, most help the skin to produce its own antioxidants.
• Promoting wound healing.

• Isoleucine: firming effect because it stimulates the elasticity and volume of the skin; helps restore the skin barrier, supports hydration, antioxidant
• Leucine: makes fine lines and wrinkles less deep, accelerates wound healing
• Lysine: strengthens the skin surface
• Proline: necessary for the production of collagen and therefore responsible for firmness and elasticity, makes fine lines and wrinkles less deep, accelerates wound healing and prevents aging of connective tissue.
• Serine: keeps the moisture balance in balance, which ensures a fresher, younger, smoother appearance and good skin condition; stabilizes the pH value of the skin, which helps prevent sensitive skin.
• Taurine: gives the skin cells the energy they need to carry out normal processes and healthy cell renewal.
